Reconcile outward tax, reverse charge, ITC, credit ledger, cash ledger and interest before filing. Use the sections below to understand the practical decisions, records and compliance points before taking action.

01

Reconcile outward liability first

Compare sales register, GSTR-1, e-invoice and e-way bill data, advances, credit notes, reverse charge and prior-period amendments before finalising liability.

02

Review input tax credit by category

Reconcile eligible credit to purchase records and GSTR-2B, identify reversals and reclaims and keep blocked, common and ineligible credit outside the claim.

03

Use ledgers lawfully

Set off tax through electronic credit and cash ledgers according to utilisation rules. Reverse-charge and other liabilities can require cash payment.

04

Calculate interest and late fee correctly

Delayed payment, excess credit or other defaults can create interest, while late filing may create late fee and portal restrictions. Use current law and portal computation.

05

Check auto-populated values

Portal summaries help but do not replace books. Investigate differences rather than accepting pre-filled figures blindly.

06

File and archive evidence

After final review and payment, file through the permitted authentication method and preserve ARN, challans, ledgers, return PDF and reconciliation workbook.
